Yes, it can!

You have probably already seen the PageMap feature in which you select a DOM element and it is highlighted (momentarily; it blinks three times) automatically. That's done with a simple DOM change to the next higher Dom element that sets the BORDER property to have the value "3", and then issues a restore command to the element.

And, you have already seen how eValid can identify a text passage in an element that is highlighted...this is sensed by looking at the background color of the element.
