You're correct, sometimes the PageMap takes a long time to stabilize.

Most of the time you will experience this when you have a VERY large page. For example, if you activate the pagemap for a news site like CNN.com, you'll see that it may take 20-40 seconds to complete. But then again, that site may have 4,000 or 5,000 or even more elements.

The check that the pagemap is doing requires a lot of invocations into the DOM to retrieve values of properties of each and every page element...and there could be 100,000 of these or even more.
