Handling Applets

Use and application of the eValid server loading (LoadTest) capability. And in the cloud computing context for monitoring and loading.

Handling Applets

Postby winreg » Mon Sep 22, 2008 10:46 am

I want to be able to do regression and load tests for my 3 layers Web
application.

GUI is a portal implemented using Liferay (4.2.1). Portlets make service
calls, but this should be transparent for eValid tests.

Also, we have SWING client rich applications which can be launched with Java
Web Start from the portal. It will be great if eValid can help test them to,
but as I saw so far, that is not possible.

During my tests, when playing the recorded scenario, sometimes it stops when pop-up windows are opened (to display a report for example).

Another problem appears when inserting new portlets. We select them from a
pop-up window and when replaying the scenario it does not select the good
ones.

Actually a Java applet in the browser, or even a Java application
running on the desktop, can be tested with eValid...

They are both "opaque" (sorry, the Swing widgests don't get exposed
through the JRE), but the app mode or desktop mode work reliably.

* In addition to its ability to record/play/analyze web-faced applications,
eValid includes a capability to record non-browser applications, and
also desktop objects. Please see:

http://www.e-Valid.com/Products/Documen ... .mode.html

* You can use eValid to record desktop windows with the Record Desktop Window
option, as described here:

http://www.e-Valid.com/Products/Documen ... .mode.html

There is a global popup killer...you'll find it in settings. And,
if you are running in batch mode there is a -S switch that kills
popups (and modal popups in particular)...

On the portlets, does the content vary? You may need to use the
DOM motion commands to search through the DOM of the popup window
to get the right result...

* eValid has special commands to allow manipulation and motion
inside a web page, to capture certain special kinds of effects:
