Both methods work fine.

The Custom Logs may give you much more data than using SaveRecord,
but the SaveRecord approach often gives you a cleaner intermediate file to send to the monitoring-reporting engine.

FYI, we use both methods in various demos and illustrations. It just depends on your application.
