General Monitoring Support

Postby winreg » Mon Sep 15, 2008 10:36 am

I have a big list of URLs and what to check ready to be implemented.

Here are some fundamental questions:

1. How do we "teach" evalid what to click on a dialogue that comes up
(CAC Authentication)

2. How do we ensure that passwords stored within a script is not easily
compromised.

3. Are there any script repositories which we could learn from?

4. How do we "validate" the resulting page as a result of certain
actions

5. How many concurrent checks should an XP workstation with 2GB of RAM
run simultaneously?

6. How do we set up email notification (with details of error
encountered)?

7. Is there a way to track transaction time?

I have a big list of URLs and what to check ready to be implemented.

Good, and do you by any chance have a "use case" for what is
to be validated on these URLs?

Here are some fundamental questions:

1. How do we "teach" evalid what to click on a dialogue that comes up
(CAC Authentication)

Authentication dialogs that require only a dismiss, are recorded
automatically. If there's a login and/or password, those are recorded
normally.

When we do the WebEX please have one of these ready to go so we can
demonstrate how this is done.
2. How do we ensure that passwords stored within a script is not easily
compromised.

eValid has a powerful feature that will encode (encrypt) inputs
so that you can protect password information from appearing
in plain text in a script file, as described here:

http://www.e-Valid.com/Products/Documen ... ncodeInput

3. Are there any script repositories which we could learn from?

Here are links to 50+ eValid Solutions to common classes of testing problems:

http://www.e-Valid.com/Products/Documen ... mmary.html

4. How do we "validate" the resulting page as a result of certain
actions

Here is the complete description of eValid's Validation modes:

http://www.e-Valid.com/Products/Documen ... ation.html

5. How many concurrent checks should an XP workstation with 2GB of RAM
run simultaneously?

If all of the tests are "desktop safe" then you can get 10's or 100's.

Scripts that are to be played back in multi-threaded monitoring playbacks,
or for multi-usr load test scenarios, may need to be "desktop safe"
to prevent one [or more] playbacks from interfering with each other.

The "desktop safe" mode for eValid playbacks is described here:

http://www.e-Valid.com/Products/Documen ... .safe.html

6. How do we set up email notification (with details of error
encountered)?

eValid has built-in commands that allow a playback script either
conditionally (when a playback flag is thrown), or un-conditionally, to
send email. This includes sending email with attachments. You also can
have eValid retrieve and send complete files. See the explanations here:

http://www.e-Valid.com/Products/Documen ... .info.html

Note: For email commands to work you MUST have email configured on
your machine; otherwise, an ERROR results.

7. Is there a way to track transaction time?

Yes, using the ResetTimer and ElapsedTime commands.

Thanks for asking...please let me know if the above pages address your
questions.

Also, PLEASE use eValid: Help > Register Product on the machine where
eValid is installed...
