There are a lot of Google performance tools available -- they have done a very good job of equipping a webmaster with facilities that do some very useful analysis.

One of these that comes to mind -- is this the one you mean -- is the Google page performance offering. In that system you use a Google-supplied plugin (the Google Toolbar) to capture navigation details as you surf around on the web. Google captures your data and stores it away [most people are never even aware of the fact that their navigations when the Google Toolbar is installed are kept by Google]. Knowing where you've navigated to and when the Toolbar plugin can measure the download time of a page -- to a certain extent.

Where this method might have a problem is with an AJAX page, for which the download times are quite variable.

eValid download times, done 100% from the client side view, tend to be more precise that what the Toolbar collects, and in addition eValid can split out the times for each separate page component.

What Google will give you is very good data; what eValid will give you is extremenly good data about page performance factors.
